Favourable response to GRA’s blood drive exercise: July 25, 2007
Approximately 20 staffers participated in the blood drive hosted by the Guyana Revenue Authority’s (GRA’s) Internal Revenue Department today. The exercise was held in the boardroom of the Internal Revenue Department, GPO Building, Robb Street, Georgetown in response to the Ministry of Health’s call for blood donation.
Coordinator of the activity Director (ag.) Return Processing, Eaton London said, “It’s the GRA’s effort to be part of the Good Samaritan Programme whereby Non Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) and workplaces come onboard to be part of the initiative to donate blood for Guyanese by the end of 2007.”
It has been the first time that the Internal Revenue Department, under the GRA, coordinated such an activity. However, under the Inland Revenue Department, similar activities were held.
“It is our view that this is a national effort that we deem significant and important because we want to ensure that our staff members and their families benefit from safe blood,” he added.
According to him, some persons were scared. However, he hopes that there would be more donors at the next blood drive.
