GRA to inform employers of TIN registrants

Commissioner –General of the Guyana Revenue Authority Mr. Khurshid Sattaur says the Authority is seeking the assistance of employers in verifying the Taxpayer Identification Number of their employees.

“Before the end of the week employers will receive a list of the TIN of their employees for whom a TIN was issued and we would seek their assistance in verifying those numbers and perhaps make any necessary amendments such as including the TIN of those persons who may have applied individually,” Mr. Sattaur said.

He added that the GRA has resorted to the exercise since it appears that employers did not undertake their responsibility seriously as it relates to ensuring that their employees obtain their TIN early.

Mr. Sattaur added that the GRA would expect that employers would promptly seek to obtain TIN for their employees who have not yet been issued a TIN or have not yet applied and the GRA would seek to expedite the process as it seeks to effectively implement the TIN module of the Total Revenue Integrated Processing System (TRIPS).

The Commissioner-General’s statement came as the GRA’s efforts intensify to ensure its system is effective and ready to accept February 14 remittances. He pointed out that the GRA would not accommodate any further extension to the TIN relaxation which it granted for January remittance.

According to the Commissioner-General the Ministry of Finance should have taken the initiative to disseminate to the various Ministries and departments a listing of the TIN of their employees which the GRA facilitated electronically sometime ago.

Since it appears that this was not done, the GRA is now in the process of compiling these with support from the Ministry of Finance and should reach employers before the end of the week.
