Revised Common External Tariff for Guyana: December 22, 2006
On December 21, at the last sitting of the National Assembly for the year 2006 the Customs Amendment Bill No. 25 of 2005 was debated and passed.

The Bill was presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh who indicated that the Amendment Bill was put before the National Assembly with the aim of incorporating the Amendment contained in Order No. 6 of 2005 into the Comprehensive Customs Amendment Act.

This is in keeping with the decision made by the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) to institute a Common External Tariff (CET) for the harmonization of trade in the region.

Member of the Opposition Winston Murrey, extended congratulations to the Government for the timely implementation of this Bill which brings Guyana on par with other Caribbean Member States in meeting the  January 1, 2007 deadline set by COTED.
