GRA flex with TIN requirement to facilitate January remittances due Monday

Commissioner –General of the Guyana Revenue Authority Mr. Khurshid Sattaur has announced that the GRA will relax the TIN requirement for remission submission this month based on December 2007 PAYE deductions.

The January submission of PAYE deductions are due on January 14 and the Commissioner-General is asking that employers and employees take note of this concession.

In light of this arrangement, the Commissioner-General hopes that there will be on time submission of remittances.

He is advising employees who are not in receipt of a Taxpayer Identification Number to notify their employer who is expected to make representation to the GRA for TIN on behalf of their employees since this would alleviate the large amount of individual transactions.

“While the GRA will flex with the TIN requirement for now and accept remittances for January as per normal, we would expect to receive the remittances for February with the TIN of every employee,” Mr. Sattaur said.

In view of the prevailing circumstances the Commissioner-General pointed out that the GRA will determine the imposition of the relevant penalties for late submission.

Employers are reminded that the applicable penalties for late payment are equivalent to 10 percent of the taxes due or 2, 3, 4 or 5 percent as applicable whichever is greater and interest of 19.71 percent.
