VAT Managers upgrade their skills – Commissioner-General calls for enhanced operation for VAT success: May 10, 2007
While the Value Added Tax (VAT) has been successfully launched in Guyana, Commissioner-General Mr. Khurshid Sattaur is calling for enhanced cooperation by internal VAT managers.
He made the call at a two-day Management Skills Training Course held at Cara Lodge, Quamina Street. The training was facilitated by Gordon Harrison, a Crown Agents Consultant.
Mr. Sattaur said despite the fact that there are still criticisms about VAT, “As a whole we have championed VAT in this country. And every one of you contributed to this.”
“Everyone of you are a manager managing a different unit within VAT and everyone of you contribute to the overall objectives of VAT but for each one of you to be successful you have to work together,” he emphasised.
He also challenged them to improve their performance pointing out that there is much more that can be done to improve the quality of service, which will improve efficiencies within the department as well as improve the overall image of the GRA.
The training is one of several planned for 2007 as the GRA continues to strengthen its human resource capacity.
“I am very committed to providing training not only to you but to every single person at GRA,” the GRA Head said.
He said that while there may be contention about the GRA having inexperienced staff, he is committed to ensuring that staffers are adequately trained to function effectively.
